August 2008On the Rise :: 22 turbines will generate up to
275 watts.

Oregon Wind's Helyx Urban Turbines will debut in 2009 on SW Jackson Street at the south end of the Portland Mall Light Rail Project. The 42-inch-tall, recycled plastic turbines—invented by Oregon Wind's technical director, Toby Kinkaid—use a double helix design that's silent, poses no threat to wildlife, and can be easily mounted on lampposts or other urban structures. TriMet's beta test of 22 turbines willl feed 275 watts of energy directly into Portland General Electric's power grid.
